This is a question that literally would take a book to explain; therefore, I'm just going to skim over it.
These two economies have core differences with one being a capilatist economy and the other being communist based.
Some argue China is not fully communist anymore but at that same time, many argue now that we are not fully capitalist with the new global economy dictating our market that is supposed to be a NATIONAL based free market.
The core differences of those two run into deep social mentality differences with an American being raised as his/her value system being based on his/her personal wealth. A communist is raises to his/her value system being based on support or participation in advancement of community. This may sound social but it VERY MUCH influences competitive markets.

The Chinese economy is based on Communism and the US is based on Capitalism.
Communism basically states that all people are equal no matter what job they do and should have equal rewards. Capitalism states that people are rwearded based on thier talent and production.

Chinese is more of a producing one and that forces labor with almost no benefit except not being killed
american is more of a service economy where there is benefits besides not being homeless

china is theoretically communist, but it really seems to be the most advanced form of unregulated, competetive capitalism. this is the direction the U.S. is headed.
