didnt arabs invade iran at some point? why should the people get the beating for it?

A good insight question. Iran supports countries around the area --specially neighboring states it is called geo-politics. meaning politics depending on the geography of the states. thus part of the explanation. the other one -- the countries supported need badly the cash inflow and not necessarily the "influence" of Iran -- thus welcoming cash and armaments --you naturally have two allies. all is a short term view of the current status quo. who knows what tomorrow will reserve for all those close relationship. hope it helps.

Iran supports the factions that give it more influence in the world, this is the same as for the US Policy.

They support fellow Shiites and try to achieve suzerainty over Sunnis and impose their brand of Islam on the world.
