1984 Eldorado came with an alloy block 4.1 liter V8,that can be confirmed if the 8th digit of the VIN is 8.If the 8th digit of the VIN is N then the car was originally equipped with the 5.7 liter (350 cid) Diesel engine.By nowadays any diesels would have been changed to an Olds design 350,a real common fix in the olds days. That vehicle is not based on the Nova or the Monte Carlo chassis,it is a front wheel drive car that shares chassis with Olds Toronado and Buick Riviera. The Nova chassis was used for the 1st generation Seville from 1976 thru 1980.The "mid-size" chassis such as Monte Carlo or Grand Prix was not used by Cadillac.See if you can find numbers on the block or cylinder heads, post them and I should be able to see exactly what engine is in your car.
