Uneducated is really not an obstacle, there are plenty of job opportunities out there. A military background is a big plus. If at all possible, encourage your friend to get his GED. Temp Services are a good way to go in your friend's situation. They screen you and help you find a job you will fit into and be happy with. Many jobs thru temp services are temp-to-hire. It is also a good way to 'feel' out a good job, if it is not something he likes, he can tell his temp agent and they will find another job for him without the stigma of job hopping. Congratulations to you for being a good friend and wanting to help! Good luck with the job search!

He has most skills to find a career with his background. If he is good with computers I suggest he thinks about getting a couple of certifications to work as an Tech Support person or IT support. He can look into the A+ Certifcate, which is a general but very widespread certification recognize in our IT field.
He can then get some extra certification along the line as he learns more.
He can also try real estate agencies, car dealerships... You don't need an advanced degree to be a sales person. Obviously it's a plus, but not a true handicap.
One thing he should definitely look into is Security Consulting. He has the perfect background for that.

Someone told me to do some volunteer work. that's always good for your resume. If not, just keep trying. There are plenty of jobs out there that don't need exp. Plus don't give up. 16 is kinda young though so I think the companies have to follow restrictions on hiring a minor.

He should look into the sales industry. He should look into working in a health club, and maybe move into personal training. Sales is great for anyone with people skills, and with him serving in Iraq it will help in the industry since many people would like to help out one of our heroes.
