I am from Chennai, India. I have not seen any human being showing his racial superiority. In the British India, the British must have practised racialism. If racialism exists in the British society, at the sub-conscious level, that is unfortunate. Those who were the ruling class, in the recent history tend to consider themselves superior to others. If if they had shed the power, the retain their sense of vain glory. I happened to watch the famous speeches of world leaders. There that speech of Winston Churchill, which he delivered in the Parliament during the II WW. The sneering comments about Japanese intention to attach England, was blatantly racial in tone and tenor. He talked of superiority of the culture that England belonged to. He famous speech against acceding to the proposal to give Independence to India, " I shall not preside over the dismemberment of the British Empire" speak volumes about the British sense of racial superiority. Pride in one's own past is one thing; and arrogance over their presumed superiority is another. A person or a group or a nation must assume humility in success and magnanimity while dealing with the weak. If we do not learn this fundamental lesson in civilisation, we are fit only to be called barbarians.

What? I haven't noticed that at all! I've lived in the UK and they have the most inter-racial marriages I have ever seen anywhere. Including the USA. Now that I am back in the USA, I watch a lot of British TV. Now, I'd say that their comedies are "not politically correct" but it is meant to be funny - not hurt anyone's feelings. But there is a difference between Political correctness and being a racist. I'm American, but I've always found the British to be very accepting and tollerant - even more tollerant than us Americans sometimes. Maybe the British people you met were the few that are ignorant and rude. There are always a few bad apples that seem to ruin a reputation for everyone.

Funny I was thinking of posting the same question about Americans...but in truth some British people are racist some aren't bit like Americans and every other nation on Earth. Racism is a curse and is always based on ignorance and fear and is found everywhere.

Not all British, though many are proud of traditions of loyalty as national trait. Football etc. Jade Goody as a rude era's Princess Di. Beware their culture of fear, the unemployed's sense of worth fueled by insularity's cold comfort and little else, and at least look as if you're concerned for understanding and shared needs. Living well is the best revenge, or only a little more comfortably than your tormentors. This will occur over time, provided you've incurred little debt, saved and had time to benefit from interest compounding..

I don't think they are.
I agree with the prior answer, like Germans they are stubbern and bull-headed. I am married to a Brit.
I think we, in the US are in such a large country with many different peoples here. When people are from smaller countries and in their history as they are taught in schools, they have been often invaded by neighbors, they become very intrenched and fearful of losing their culture, so the Brits, as are many Europeans are super culture bigots.
That's where the problem is.
MY white Brit husband had been married to a black woman.
This surprised me because he is so doggone pro-Brit.
When I hear of super patriots, often if I look more closely, I can find a bigot - but they are super patriots of their own country and that does not couple with racism at all.

Thats a huge generalisation, most people here mix with people from all over the world without any problems, of course that doesn't make the news. Where I live I can walk along the street talking to Chinese, Japanese, Somalian, Yemini, Afro Caribean, Australian, Bolivian, French, Portugese, Greek and Spanish. Thats just in the last few weeks! No arguements, no bad mouthing, just conversation.

They aren't, racists are everywhere in all countries. It is so unfortunate, yet very true. I wish one day racism, hatred, jealousy, greed, hunger, etc....would simply perish. This world will not make it any farther with this kind of logic. I just really want Peace!+++

You think their racist? You should go to South Africa. The more cultural differences there are in a country, the more things people find to be intolerant about.

Racism is everywhere unfortunately; it has nothing to do with nationality, it's just a matter of education, and there are racist=uneducated people in every country. Generalizing is wrong.
