Ok, I am thinking to buy a house and have it moved from one state to another. If you have ever had a house moved what are the pro's and con's. The reason I am considering it is because new houses cost over 100,000 but I can buy an older home for less than 50,000 and have it moved, what do you think?

I have land in Oklahoma and Arkansas, in Oklahoma it is a very rural area but lots of land, and in Arkansas it is in Cherokee Village which is near the lakes. Just trying to see which would be more economical...... Thank you

Sorry but I cannot give an answer without more details. It depends so much on the size of the house being moved (especially the heigth due to power lines across roads etc.) Which states , how far, back roads or major roads, they all play such a roll in the pricing of a move and therefore the feasability of it.

My best suggestion would be to call a house moving company and talk with them. They should be able to give you an idea of the costs involved. Also check the zoning of your intended new location to see if you can move a house in, some do not allow it etc. Have you priced a lot in the new location? Sometimes vacant lots are more in demand than ones with houses on them.

Wish I could be more help, but moving a house is based on the specifics of the house and locations. It is usually not cheap, but sometimes is worth doing for sure.

Good luck!

I personally wouldn't want to move a house. You can't move a site-built house in one piece unless it's a VERY small house!
I have seen a house moved about 30 miles in my neighborhood. It was cut in quarters and then reassembled on the new site.
During the transportation, the roof sagged to the point where it had to be re-roofed (I helped do that job).
I would look for an older house in the location where I want to move.
You'll use a major part of the $50,000 savings on disassembly, reassembly and transportation cost, and the house may not reassemble correctly in the new place.

I watched a show were they moved this house. It cost them over 100k. You may want to reconsider your thoughts on this.
Why not just move to the area where the home is?
