I work for a construction company in the office. I feel I have been a great employee ( I have had raises in the past, etc). I just found out (since I do payroll) that I am the only one in the company that is not going to get a raise this month! I report to four men, and during my last review all but one of them scored me above average except the one man. I think he has a personal hate for me - what should I do?

Go to your boss & tell him that you couldn't help but notice that it seems you are being discriminated against. Tell him you feel like you deserve a raise since you have worked hard this year. Also mention that it would not be fair if you were the only person to NOT get a raise. Say I got all above averages on my review, except one. I know how you feel. Maybe everything will work out. But I wouldn't just stand back & let this happen...do something about it!! You deserve a raise just like everybody else!

Unless there is some kind of union involved you should just let them know that you feel that you deserve a raise. I would not push your discrimination theory, as it probably won't help you get your raise. If you are straight forward with them all they can say is no. If you take a legal route you may be able to force the issue, but you will be in such an uncomfortable position after that you won't want to work there anyway. Sometimes if you know you are giving your best and you just can't make other people see you value, it is just time to move on. Good people can always find good jobs.

Go back to work.

Seriously now stop complaining you said you had raises in the past and those guys probably didn't. I didn't see them ask a question like this on Y!A. Plus that guy who didn't score you above average is only saying his opinion.

So? Sometimes you get a raise, and sometimes you don't.

Since when is that discrimination? I'd be careful about that sort of talk at your office, because they could very well find another secretary that won't jump to conclusions.

Go to your immediate supervisor and ask what's changed? while its not considered ethical to use the information you obtain through the course of your job duties, its hard to ignore that you know this. If its out of the norm for previous months, ask someone you think you'll get a straight answer from.
