I'm 26 and I live by myself. Just moved in to this place alone for the first time a month ago. It's a little wierd if you want to go out and can't find anything to do that you are relgated to being home alone. but it is FABULOUS to come home to the house exactly as you left it, never have to do anyone else's dishes, know whose hair is clogging the drain, not come home to find that you are now out of milk, not have anyone to argue over chores with, and never have to worry about your roommate walking in!! I recommend - cable tv for late nights, a good lock on the door so you never have to worry, give a friend or neighbor a set of keys just in case, a few flashlights around in case of power failure (being alone in the dark sucks!), and enjoy! you can always ask for special circumstances with the pet thing - you never know, they might let you have a cat or dog if you ask real nice. you could also get a fish or a bird or something maybe? however - it is also great fun to not be beholden to anyone - including a cat - so you can come and go as you pelase. good luck! have fun!

If you have a pet already, which you do not mention, it is definitely a bad idea. People forget commitment to the cat or dog is a lifelong thing. If not, no big deal.
Most no pet policies do allow for smaller animals. Maybe not an indoor cat but creatures who live in cages. I have lived in such a place, and kept snakes, hedgehogs, fish, and various other small critters. Besides, when I was your age and lived alone, I had a big beautiful Old English Sheepdog. At times my dear dog sadly curtailed my freedom because of course she needed a lot of attention, which I am sorry to say she sometimes did not get. LOL I found snakes were the perfect pets!
A year long lease, but it is not a life sentence and moving is is an option in 12 months.
Enjoy your new freedom! I have always preferred to live alone over being with strangers or non family. Needless to say, this did NOT apply to living with my daughters. It is nice ot know if there are dishes in the sink you put them there. Whoa! That applies to kids too, doesn't it?
I just moved into a small apartment after living with children for 22 years. It is still a shock to be in a small place I can clean in less than an hour! For me I love the little place, but it is at the far end of the city from my kids. So I have my lonely times but that is also part of the empty nest syndrome, a different thing altogether.
I have a man who wants to marry me and the simple freedoms of solitary living are things I must take into consideration as I ponder his offer.
The only thing for making it work is enjoying it and managing the rent!
A great view is a bonus.

No pets is ok, because your home will smell better.
I have a Shih Tzu that I could not live without but I did not get a pet until I had my own home and was married.
Its very hard to keep a pet when you are single and alone.
Your life sounds ok but you are still young and there is a lot of living you have to do...do you know how many people that are reading your posting envy you? tons..especially women with chileren...so don't waste the golden years worrying as all too soon you will look back as these are the day...or the good old days...you probably won't get another chance like this until you get put into a nursing home/?? lol..have fun

Is living alone the issue or is it not being able to have a pet? There's a difference. I live alone but between my job, co-workers and friends, I am relieved at times that my space is my own...I eat when I want, sleep when I want and play when I want without anyone else to tell me what to do with my spare time. Pets are "company" but like children, require constant attention; and you have to think about what is good for the animal. If you rent and have a dog, they should at least have a small yard to do their duty in and sniff out squirrels. If you must have a pet don't sign your lease on this place and get one that allows pets.

Dear One,
First of all, what do YOU think about living alone. I am not sure about the pet situation.. If pets are important to you, by all means, do not rent there. I have lived alone for twenty years and I love it. No one to answer to etc. Companionship is necessary, so be involved with your community. But try it, living solo. Give your self a year at least, then you know that you can live that way or not. If you don't at least try, you will never know. Good luck

I used to live alone and loved it;no fighting for the remote or cleaning up after others (men, LOL)
to make it work become comfortable with yourself-take long baths, read good books and invite friends over ocassionally - once a month/quarter for fun
They dont allow pets but can you have a fish? not an aquarium but maybe one of the new sphere bowls or a beta -something with less than 5 galloons of water?
I hope this helps

I loved living alone. You don't have to answer to anyone but you. It wasn't so much a problem since I had friends over at least once a week for dinner parties or movies and what have you. I absolutely miss it.

No it's not a bad idea.
It will only seem odd living alone in the first week.
