You have missed the whole point of what the cons are against. It is the funding of research not the research. Let the private sector do it if they feel it is needed and mostly the private sector feel the research is useless and leads to nothing

Stem cell research brings up the controversial issue of abortion. To get the stem cells you have to have the fetus. Most right-wing conservatives are Christians, and in the Bible it has been interpreted to say that animals are here for humans to eat. I believe that that's what animals are here for...but that's just me. But anyways, to get the stem cells there must be abortion, and most conservatives are against abortion.
