Liberals are more socialistic, and socialism only works under the powerful control of government, therefore they must rely on it to achieve what they see as economic and social equality.

Conservatives understand that the purpose of government in a democracy was never to guarantee social and economic equality, but rather to provide a vehicle for freedom for individuals to achieve or fail on their own.

As someone once said: "A Democrat is a Republican who hasn't been screwed yet." Conservatives have faith in themselves and God to fix what ails them - not faith in government to do so. We also understand that the most dangerous words ever spoken are: "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

Bonus question? National Endowment for the Arts... PBS...

Way to complicated to address this adequately.

But the government is elected by the people, so in an ideal world (and it is NOT ideal), the government would be acting in the best interests of ALL the people.

Why do conservatives put so much faith in big business?
Liberals do not because- big business is acting in the best interest of big business and making a profit. Big business, in general, does not act in the best interest of ALL people, the environment or anything else.

Bonus question answer- ALL agencies and system's have LOTS of room for improvement. Some of the problems that prevent improvement are, control/influence of big business, greed of those in power, inept staff, inept management, AND liberals and conservatives fighting over it and making it a campaign issue, instead of really dealing with the problems.

The Government educates you, defends you from your enemies overseas, provides a safety net for you and your family if you fall on hard times, provides you with health care (well not so much in the US), keeps your environment clean, protects you from being exploited by unethical and greedy corporations, keeps you mail being delivered, makes sure the water running out of your taps is drinkable...

The reason some things don't work as well as they should is that for years successive right-wing parties have slashed and slashed again at the money these parties need to operate, so that when something actually does happen, there isn't the staff or resources needed to do it.

Here in Europe we pay more in tax than you in the US, but guess what. We have free health care, a better public education system, a stronger welfare system, stronger worker's rights legislation... sure we pay more, but we also think more about the common good of all.

the worry with liberals is only that they comprehend a lot that could no longer so. The Liberal ideology is a idea , fostered through a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that don't have any foundation extremely. they're Advocates of a coverage that empowers an effective federal authorities to enslave its those with a intense tax burden incident to the help of extravagant and unnecessary social classes detrimental to both the artwork ethic between the decrease classification, and the inducement to innovate and prevail between the operating classification. About that bonus question. None that I can think of except Congress. Look at how much money Congress has authorized to be spent since 1990. And only one year did they ever have a surplus. Look for the last time there was a surplus before 1990.

But give the agencies a break. Congress is always telling them what to do and then taking their money from them. What money they do give them Congress is never satisfied with how it's spent.

Our government(s) also own and run:
The U.S. Military
State and Local Police
Municipal Fire departments

Also, we are a government of the people and so, faith in government is faith in ourselves.

Why do conservatives put so much faith in market forces considering the following:

Enron
Tyco
Haliburton
The Internet Bubble in the stock market

I think there is plenty of room for both government and private ownership in America. One is often better than the other in any given circumstances.

Thanks for making the argument!

All those agencies work well, when Liberals are running them!

Conservatives only want to give tax dollars to corporations (Halliburton) to run these agencies badly. So far, the only one left that they can't get there hands on is Social Security. Recent events prove how badly they've screwed up FEMA and the military.

What I don't get is why so called conservatives continue to vote against their own best self-interests? For instance, those in the military who complain about how bad things are compared to pre-Reagen era. Can you say outsourcing? Hmmmm?

The public education system

And for the genius above me, the DOD wasn't any better prior to the current administration since Bush 41 left office.
