Hi everyone! I am moving South and am so far unfamiliar with the best areas to live in East London? There is a ton of places to rent in places like Bow and Bethnall Green and I was wondering which would be the better one for a young professional?

There is no safe and cheap areas. There are safe areas and cheap areas but none that are exactly safe and cheap. Living in The City, close to Liverpool Street station or the top of Middlesex Road is very safe. There's a big police presence there and they keep a covert eye on what's going on. I lived there for eight years, I couldn't stand the city boy bankers everywhere, it was too quiet at the weekend but I never saw or heard of any trouble. And then there's docklands or right in the heart of Shoreditch. Right in the middle, mind you. Anywhere affluent is generally quite safe. Rent is going to be high though. But don't be scared! Come and live in Dalston! It's great here, much safer than it was ten years ago and I have only witnessed one shooting (no one was hurt though and, by way of a vague compensation, there were police everywhere for the following hour.)

I also live in south London, but spent most of my life living in the east end, like everywhere, its what you make it. Bow , Poplar east ham have a very high number of Indian people and the Isle of dogs can be very yuppie. My three oldest kids were born on the Isle of dogs and in them days their was a more community feel to it. but i would say now-days that Stratford is not too bad.

I wouldn't move there because local prices will rocket when they finally get round to finishing the Olympic village, plus it's ll on flood plains.

I'd stay up north if I were you. London is a rathole of a place.
