Envy, lack of self confidence, learned hatred, etc. You are right, these are some of the reasons why we are horrible to one another. I think people need to look within and search what may be affecting them on the inside that allows them to treat others with disregard. Happy people treat others in happy ways. But if you are dead inside, you tend to treat others badly. When people make racially offensive comments on this page, I know that they have issues that they need to work on themselves. In order to love one another, we must first learn how to love ourselves.

The animal kingdom and human kingdom are mean to each other and between each other, that's how nature works. Ignore mean people and try and live a respectable life. Set a good standard and you will find people will be drawn to you and change for the better to mirror your example. This is not a secular message, just common sense and decency. It's a constant struggle but be true to yourself! Stop yourself when you think of doing something mean, do one or two less mean things a day and before you know it you will be a much happier person.

It's a big, huge lack of respect for the human race. No one believes in the Golden Rule anymore as corny as it sounds. If you treat someone mean don't be surprised if they feel they have the right to do that same back at ya. It's the way the world is now days almost everywhere you can think of. Sad. VERY sad!

I think it is to do with confidence, if a person is confident in themselves they feel no need to be nasty to other people, unless that person is being nasty to them.
Many young people are at a stage when they are developing confidence, this partially explains why young people are more likely to be abusive than most older people. Some people however grow up with little confidence, this alone doesn't make them nasty. It is more the people trying to be brave, when they lack confidence in themselves, they gain confidence in being nasty. Boys are more likely to put on this act, because girls are encouraged to be themselves.

You know we all have our bad moments and bad days but there are some people that it just never ends. We have a lady that comes into my work very often. The employees run and hide from her because she is just such a bit** to everybody. One day one of the customers even said something to her about her attitude. Still this lady has not changed. Wouldn't it be a much nicer world if we would just try to be nice to each other.

I always believed that people are mean to one another because they are unhappy with thier own lives. Putting down or picking a fight with someone else makes them feel superior to other people sometimes. Then again some people were just bad seeds when they were born. I mean look at people like Gacy, Jeffery Dahmer, the BTK killer, Jim Jones, they are all total freak shows.

i really want to know the answer to this. Why the hell are people so nasty to each other. Ok, if there is history of someone doing wrong against you and your nasty to them, but, come to think of it why did that person do something horrible to you? i guess the answer comes from two stories. One of adam and eve, and the other of pandora's box- quite logical no matter which one you believe.

we are too busy to be bothered with being more kind and compassionate. we are living in a completely self-centered world, and its moving at a terrifying speed. scary to think how the chips will fall when the top spins off of its axis.

It is just instinct, it is not just people, it is animals too. Animals are mean to each other, for food, for a mate, for whatever. I try to be nice to everyone, but it does not always work out that way. So you are not alone. =)

Usually when people are mean and nasty it is because they are unhappy with their own lives. If you love your life and everything is in sync, you have no reason to be mean to anyone.
