My husband and I will be moving there this August. He is a software engineer & I will be attending NYU Law. It is so overwhelming looking for places. Is it possible to line something up this far in advance? The aparment broker route seems really pricey, but is it the only way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

MOst campuses have student housing departments. Call them
and ask for a list of apt. rentals and a qualified realestate broker.

The landlord generally pays the commission so I do not see why you should pay a broker.

Also, the New York Times is online. Look in the real estate section.

Be care ful of scammers claiming to be "agents" that will take a "fee"
and you will never see them again.

Ask your husbands futute employer for some help. His new boss
should be able to offer some guidance.

As a fellow New Yorker here is some advice. If you feel the broker is pricey you can look at www.nytimes.com or www.craigslist.com. NYC's market is very expensive around $1,000 per SF to purchase. Rent is at least $3,000-$5,000 per month. I would try and negotiate a price now before the peak season. Also, there are alot of places outside of the city you can look into such as Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island where, you will get a bigger bank for your buck. It really depends on the type of of neighborhood you are looking to get into. I would imagine a high-end neighborhood so you should look into Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo (Brooklyn) short commute to city and you get a little more for your money ($800+/Square Foot)

I think of it would be very costly to lease an entire small condominium development in NYC. in keeping with squarefoot, NYC is the main costly real assets in the full u . s ., and in many the international. there are various articles outlining this on line, in basic terms some clicks of the mouse and you will discover out. till you are the Olsen twins, or a sort of different nitwit millionaires you would be puzzling pressed to discover an decrease priced condominium in NYC.
