It depends on how you define "middle class". According to democrats, families making above 70 Gs annually are "the rich" and should be more heavily taxed.

The truth is, the middle class is only vaguely defined in virtually all circumstances and the definition depends on the perspective of the one considering the matter. In most cases, the middle class referred to by politicians is that class of people who best fit the point they intend to infer. For instance, my opening statement could be used to raise taxes on a part of the middle class by grouping them in with those nasty rich folk. In fact, there have been so MANY diverse definitions that none actually exist. Truly, beauty IS in the eye of the BEHOLDER.

The Middle-Class of the countries you mention are being aided by their governments so that they can attract businesses (their government pays for health care, educational opportunities, etc.). it is not the "middle-class" that is better at Capitalism, it's the fact that they are shoring up their capitalism with a socialism foundation (which America has been unable/unwilling to do). At the same time, both of these nations are ignoring their lower class and this will cause a lot of trouble for them in the near future as their cultures clash. Never the less, these jobs will go to other developing nations (Thailand, Vietnam) rather than return to America.

Define 'middle-class'. Suburbs, boredom, excessive drinking, superbowls, pointless arguments over money, too much credit, food thrown out, vacations and golfing, two German sedans? If so, then 60-70 % of the population.
