I've only had one ultra sound at 22 weeks and I am now 35 weeks and I see my doctor Thursday and I realy want another one. Will they give me one by request or does there have to be a reason?

There usually has to be a reason. A lot of insurance companies won't pay for more than one but if you are willing to pay for one out of your pocket you could get one done.

It depends on your doctor and your insurance. My insurance only covers 1 ultrasound (between 18-20) weeks, unless the pregnancy is high risk. If I want another one I have to pay for it out of pocket and go to a different doctor (I have military insurance and use a military doctor, so they won't do anything not covered by my insurance).

My doctor also recommends against repeated ultrasounds, unless they are medically necessary. Talk to your doctor to get his opinion on whether you should have one, and call your insurance company to find out if it's covered or not.

There needs to be a reason. They are expensive and are only used for medical reasons. You can go to a 3D place and pay for one if you want.

They will give you one by request if you pay out of pocket for it--usually $400-600.

I had two during my pregnancy. I think the 2nd one was near the end. They checked fluids and position, stuff like that. If you want one (and don't have one scheduled) I'd simply ask. They may or may not comply.

They have to have a reason. Or you can pay a few hundred out of pocket.

They generally only do one ultrasound. Why do you need another one?

They aren't always necessary. Be thankful.
