What me and my band did when I was younger and we couldn't find work was rent a hall or some other area where people can come and gather that you can regulate. Then charge money or pass around the hat. Since you are in Texas, there should be plenty of outdoor venues where you can demonstrate your talent. You have to check with local ordinances though, so the cops won't come and shut you down.
If you have a recording or video of your band playing start sending it around to potential employers. Examples:Teen Hangouts, nightclubs, art centers, motels etc... Also, another thing to do is look for bars or businesses who feature local talent night.

If you are a manager, don't let your client see this question. Yahoo! Answers isn't exactly the number one place to go to book a gig. Seriously though, you could call local bars and see if they would allow you to playa night. If you are good, word will travel, and it'll get easier and easier. Soon you'll be getting the calls by people asking you to play.
