A Chinese saying: 'This, too, will pass'. It is relevant to both awful things that happen to you and wonderful things that happen, so that you realise things will get better than this moment in time, and when you are happy to appreciate that moment because it will not last.

2 Things:
1. Whilst weeping over the death of someone, and wishing there'd been more time spent together, it was said to me, "If you could have chosen when to say goodbye, when would have been the right time? The answer to that one is basically, never, because even if granted one more day, we would always want 'just one more'.
2. The Weaver.
My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colours
He worketh steadily.
Oftimes He weaveth sorrow
And I in foolish pride
Forget he sees the upper,
And I, the underside.
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand
As the threads of Gold and Silver
in the pattern he has planned.

If you were born without wings do nothing to prevent them from growing - I like this saying because there is a clear message of hopefulness in it. How often we curse our destiny, and our circumstances, the life we have to live. We argue that this is not our fault that we were born into certain situations, or it we inherited some problems and issues. Why should we then suffer. This is not fair, life is not fair. We might give up altogether in the hands of circumstances. The fact I see here is that there is always a possibility that we can influence what goes on around us and in our life; we can change things, even the most personal and unlucky ones. Attached to this message of hopefulness, there is also a caution. This is what I especially like, for there is hope but there is also danger of acting out of sheer despair, desperation or ignorance to lose any chances and opportunities that life has in store for us, where we could have made best of them.

This one was said to me 1969/70, and it goes like this. However clever you
think you are there is always someone around the corner better than you.
I was about 20/21 at the time, and it has always kept me in good stead.
I am now 57 and that saying was quoted to me by a gentleman that I had a
very big regard for.I have quoted that on several occasions,to my 3 children
who are all adult now and they seem to accept the meaning of it too.

No sooner said than done.
I hate procrastination and as a kid when asked to do something ie chores, homework etc I did them immediately to get them out of the way (the pocket money didn't hurt either) and the habit has just carried on to the present time.

"This above all: To thine own self be true."
I saw that phrase used in the movie Renaissance Man, thought about it, and decided that being true and truthful to oneself really is the most integral necessity there is for just action. If you are not truthful to yourself, how can you be truthful to anyone?
(Years later, I read Hamlet and discovered that Polonius, the character who delivers the line, is actually incredibly deceitful, and the next thing he says after the "above all" line is a fallacy. Kind of a letdown, but the "above all" idea and the phrase itself are still perfectly valid.)

There are few of them. "Cor non mentitur", or "Heart doesn't lie" is the most important one for me, because it's true, at least for me. The other one is "It can't rain all the time". Also true. Helped me deal with certain difficulties in life. And there are many sayings by Kahlil Gibran, about Love, that are just amazing, and so true.

In the words of Mick Jagger, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you might find you'll get what you need."
I grew up with 5 brothers and no sisters. This helped me cope with the whole ordeal.

be the change you wish to see in the world-gandhi, I like it as everyone we encounter we cannot ignorantly assume manners yet if we show manners say opening a door for people it can change their opinions and possibly put them in that position with someone else, domino effect

Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you..
It just defines work and prayer in the most beautiful way. It shows how important it is to depend on yourself when working, and fully and only on God when praying.
