That depends on the length of the music programs recorded, and the 78 rpm record where made of a type of lacquer (quite fragile), NOT vinyl. Vinyl came in with 33 rpm 'hifi' records.

there is only one groove on all of them .... it goes around the record in an ever decreasing spiral to the end.
now as for counting the peaks opposed to the groove in a straight line along the diameter of the record....... well your gonna have to offer many many more points for that jewel of info.

find out the total minutes of music on each side, then multiply by 33.

dharp is correct, to some degree. the tall grooves stop between songs and a new groove begins with each one. so, if 5 songs on a side, then 5 grooves. to count the peaks and valleys, multiply by the formula above.
