how ram increses speed......we say that "i hav 512 mb ram"....512mb mention space....same as hard disk is aslo mentioned in gb....which is aslo related to space avilable.....then how increase of ram increses speed of computer where as increses of hard disk does not????
and what is stored in 512mb ram......what this mb real meaning??

The more RAM you have, the less you have to access the hard drive for swapping. Hard drive access is HUNDREDS of times slower than RAM access, so the less you access the HD, the faster your computer moves. Get it?

When RAM is full your comuter uses the pagefile or swap file for virtual memory. This is where the slowdown occurs - the transfer rate is much higher for RAM than writing to the virtual memory on your hard disk.
