2. In French, the plural for people is not like the English "they". It is "il" for male singular, and "elle" for female singular. But in groups, "elles" is plural for females only, and "ils" is plural for both males only and for mixed male and female. That occurs in most European languages, both Romance (French, Spanish, etc.) and Germanic languages; English's "they" is the exception.

In American culture and language, "guys" has become less gender specific in certain contexts. Esepcially the one you mentioned. It is more of a casual, colloquial synonym for "people." In the southern portion of the USA, you might hear "Hey ya'll," which is essentially equivalent in meaning, although apparently less gender-specific.

i have heard some human beings declare it is because adult males will run wild and loopy, commence raping each and every thing that strikes, crashing autos and strolling into lamp-posts. basically, women human beings's nipples will deliver society to its knees(!!!) except for sure, it truly is a quite insulting idea that each and every one adult adult males are means rapists who merely favor to be pushed so some distance in the previous they can now no longer administration themselves. there are a good number of places contained in the international the position women human beings can and do bypass topless devoid of any sizeable change... it is going to change into as accepted as adult adult males going bare-chested.

There are lots of apparently gendered words that have
lost their gender. "Guys" is only the most recent.

Prior to 1960, if you wanted to say that somebody
did something but you weren't sure of the gender,
you would use "he".

Now, you say something like "he or she" or
even s/he (ick).

Oh man
