If so, by what means?
PS-I'm doing this for a project, and I thought Ricky would be a perfect modern-day version of a tragic hero!

Remember King Creon in Antigone? He brought HIS fate upon himself! And don't forget Ricky Williams' 1800 yard rushing season...he was on the way to being a record-breaking runner!

No! In my opinion something tragic happens beyond a person's control. Ricky screwed HIMSELF up.
Someone mentioned Pat Tillman -- That's a much more appropriate example of a) tragic and b)hero.

No, he's not and never was a hero. In New Orleans he was a goof ball who wouldn't take off his helmet to do an interview because of his anxiety problems. In Miami, he totally screwed his team mates by quitting on them just prior to training camp. He may in some instances be tragic, but there is no way he can be considered a hero

Not a tragic hero...he is more like a coward. And you cannot seperate his drug use from his problems. He had to conscientiously choose to use drugs and his "retirement" seemed to be his way to escape the league's reaction to it.
If you want a tragic hero try Mario Lemieux!! An NHL superstar that has dealt with cancer. Or Brian Piccolo - died of cancer during the NFL season.

No, he is neither hero nor tragic.
He fails as a hero because what has he done? Run a bit in the NFL and in the NCAA. Big deal. Rocky Bleier did so after being a Vietnam Vet....there's a hero.
Tragic? Why? Because he is a drug user/abuser/addict? All the pro-pot people tell us that pot is not addictive, so he chooses to flaunt the rules of his profession. Self-inflicted tragedy shouldn't count.

I don't recall 'being a pot-head' as one of the attributes of a tragic hero in classic literature. I could be wrong, it's been a while since college.

No. Ricky Williams is an example of a stupid person that has been given a lot of money. Mike Tyson is another.

No. Pat Tillman would be better.
Ricky would be a great example of a person who sees himself in a different light than reality.

I am a Dolphins fan and I think they are insane for letting him play again. Ricky Williams is a total pot head.
