I was with my cousin once in swanse. I was aged about 6, and he only had enough money for one chocolate bar. But i found a plastic coin and took it with me to the shop. My cousin bought his and so i handed my 'money' the shop keeper. He looked at me and thought for a couple of seconds. Then he accepted it. What a kind man he was ;)

At university, there was a small corner shop nearby, it was `run` by a retired intellectual(whom I became friendly with)The students thought he was a bit `dim` because he didn`t say much and was rather slow in his ways. After pre-arranging it with him, I decided to play a trick on some of my mates. We went into the shop and I bought a bar of chocolate, "That will be 25p. please Miss " Followed by " Thank you" as I gave him five plastic five pence pieces from a child's` game.!! He said that two of the others tried it sometime later, but they found out he was not so dim at all ! Now that I am a real grown-up, I still use plastic money, but these days, just about anyone will accept it, they must be quite dim!

During the first world war metal was in short supply, the bank of england issued temporary coins made out of an early plastic called stracholine, but were quickly withdrawn as they were so easy to forge, they remained legal tender until 1920. Very few remain if you can get one they`re worth a small fortune today.
