Perhaps he felt alone and neglected, like the elder Dungy bestowed more love and attention onto his players than he, his blood son.
Woe to he who should taketh other men beneath his wings, while leaving his own progeny exposed to the cold.

I believe he was depressed and had substances in his system (not sure if they were street or prescribed).

It's sickening that people here are trying to act like they know the ins and outs of the relationship between Tony Dungy and his son. He could've been a great father and his son just had some mental and substance abuse problems. He could've been too wrapped up in his team. Nobody outside the family really knows, so I don't know why there is so much negative speculation about Tony Dungy being a bad father.

No. He has depression or some other issues. Tony Dungy is a great coach, person, and Christian. I can't believe someone would state otherwise.

It's possible, since an NFL head coach would have to focus so much attention on the team and possibly at the expense of one's family.

As far as why his son offed himself, only his son could possibly know that. It was shortly after he had been with his girlfriend, so that could be a factor combined with being fed up with college life (what college kid isn't stressed out enough already). Also, since Andy Reid's kids were recently in the news because of heroin use and brandishing a firearm, maybe he was on drugs.

It probably has nothing to do w/ the father. I believe he was addicted to drugs like speed and cocaine, and had an acute sense of irratibility
