Depends what the potion is for.
It just a collection of herbs, can be used to increase health, protection, psychic healing....
Love potions and things like that, they are just the popular media version of making fun.

potions are items mixed together to create a desired result.
for example (now this is not a potion, just an example) fresh spring water - - direct from the spring - - crushed rose petals & pine bark turned to powder. Mix together and pour on somebody so that they will fall in love with you.
good or bad is totally on perspective...... however i would say that the mythos has to do with control - - - or breaking control

A potion (from Latin potio, potionis, meaning beverage, potion, poison) is a drinkable medicine or poison..
So It can be bad or good depending upon use.
