i am a complete opposer to this senseless war, and would probably be in vietnam too (my dad served by the way.) but i think she crossed the line. its one thing to protest the war, but its another, inexcusable thing to side with the enemy. even if you disagree with the war, you shouldnt support the enemy. thats where she went wrong. so i dont like her at all.

She is not well liked by many vets because during the Vietnam War she went to North Vietnam as a private citizen and allowed her image to be used for propaganda purposes as well as publicly spoke out against the war while there. She also even had some meetings and interviews with some US POWs who were tortured and mistreated. You have to remember some of these men had been POWs for several years and the last thing they needed or would expect was some glamorous hollywood star from back home coming into a room and meeting with them and chastising or reprimanding them about their participation in the war. While her political views and right to free speech are the same as yours or mine her going to a country that we are at war with and allowing her voice and image to be used for propaganda I think crosses the line.

Hate her. It's one thing to oppose the war on the grounds that it wasn't our war. It's another to meet with the enemy. Even if the enemy WERE right, she's got a duty as an American to not commit treason. But that's moot because the enemy was NOT right.
A lot of people overstate the case on Vietnam. Maybe it wasn't our battle to fight, that's a valid argument. Maybe "victory" wasn't defined ahead of time and so for THAT reason we shouldn't have participated. And our participation kept the war going for a decade longer than it otherwise would have gone on, and as a result there were more casualties including civilian casualties.
But as between us and the Reds, we were NOT the bad guys.

Don't care for her. She continues to get fat off the land she
betrayed in the Viet Nam area.
With that said I had no use for Joe McCarthy for crucifying
celebrities that did a lot less with his Communist paranoia.
An opinion opposed to his was a Communist. So afraid of Communist he was the Communist because he behaved like them. It certainly wasn't Democracy.
I agree with her about Iraq but she's only jumping on the band wagon near the end.

I don't like her-- she needs to keep her mouth shut.
But, we do have freedom of speech so she's free to say whatever stupid thing she wants. She is not helping the cause tho.

As a liberal, I don't like her, as she gives us a bad image and reinforces stereotypes about liberals.

Neither.
She's just a celebrity. I don't waste my time and energy worrying about her one way or the other.
