The massacre of 1937 was the killing by troops of the Dominican Republic of some 20,000 Haitian civilians along the border between the two countries. This led to ill-feelings towards the United States on the part of Haitians partly because the dictator of the Dominican Republic, Trujillo, was American trained and considered an American client and partly because while American intervention resolved the incident it did so in a way that cost Trujillo and the DR very little.

It's quite simple,back in 1937 way before world war II Rafael Trujillo
at that time was the dictator of the Dominican Republic.We all know
that Haiti and the Dominican share the island of Hispaniola(formaly
known as la Espaniola),but there is a border that divides the two nations for political matters.Trujillo had a vision,and his vision was to
"purify" the Dominican population by making the nation whiter.Trujillo
(a mulatto) claims that the the Dominican people were the most Spanish people in the western hemesphere,and that the reason why many of the Dominican people have darker skin tones,is because the,"The Haitians are contaminating(racial mixing) the Dominican race."We all know that from the time of slavery,Dominicans have mixed with in the races,this is a way for Trujillo to deny his half African heritage,and show favoritism to the European side of his heritage.That's right,73 percent of the Dominican population are of mixed race heritage also know as Mulatto like I mentioned before,11 percent are of African descent,and only 16 percent of the population are of European descent.Now let me get to the point finally,Trujillo had a secret
campaign at that time that would of made the Dominican population whiter,but his first goal was to eliminate the black Haitians that either lived in the Dominican Republic,or were planning to cross the border to cut sugar cane,or practice voodoo
across the border.Trujillo had a secret police force that went straight to the Haitian-Dominicans border to capture black Haitians, and make the Haitians say the word perejil which means parsley in Spanish.If No one could spell the word properly,
these men,women,and even children,and babies were killed.It was called the 1937 massacre,because he secretly had 15 to 25,000 black Haitians murdered,just to make the Dominican Republic,whiter and eliminate anything that was black.Trujillo was a racist.No one could control Trujillo,he ran around rampant and did what ever he wanted,and out of disrespect he changed the historic capital name known as Santo Domingo to Ciudad Trujillo.Santo Domingo got it's name back after Trujillo got it's name back after Trujillo was assasinated by disaffected by diseffected members of Trujillo's campaign.It effected Haitians in many ways.Haitians at that time were trying to prosper,and many have left their country to go to the Dominican Republic to live a better life,and Trujillo robbed them from that because of killing streak and racism towards black people.Haitians felt the USA was responsible for Trujillo,because the United States occupied
the Dominican Republic in the 1910's up until the 1930's,the
USA backed up the Dominican Republic,and did little to help Haiti.
Haitians viewed Americans as racists,because the US government backed up a man who was a racist.The USA never
knew what Trujillo was doing,because Trujillo was a genius at putting up a front.In other words Trujillo past himself as innocent
when ever a US president visited the island,he would force the people into making peace on the island,and everything was perfect.In order for Haiti and the USA can continue to be friends,
the USA and many other countries in Latin America formed a political coalition know as the OAS(organization of America States)secretly without Trujillo knowing about it,especially since
many leaders from Latin America.Since many Latin America was closer to the Dominican Republic than the United States was,it was easier the USA to find out what Trujillo was up to,through
