Fan barely spins whenever I turn on the truck. All pulley are still working and bolt connecting fan to pulley is tight. I cant figure out how to tighten the fan on. I know its easy Ive done it before while putting on a water pump but have forgotten how. How do I tighten it? And can I just remove the shroud to do it? Thanks

sounds like everything is tight, but your fan clutch is bad. fan clutch is cheap - $10-15 bucks. you can just remove the shroud, but not necessary.

Sounds like you need a new fan clutch assembly. This wouldn't be a GM light truck (Trailblazer, Renier, Envoy Bravada etc) built after 2002 would it? The fan clutches in these have almost a 100% failure rate.

Most of the new cars, the fans are heat acutuated like the other guy siad, unless you have an 80's car then it uses a fan clutch.... but on a new car the fan wont kick on until your coolant reaches a certain tempature, like 190 degrees.

The clutches inside the fan drive housing are heat actuated.
They won't engage untill the unit gets hot from air flowing throught the radiator to heat it up.
