Is a phone line really required to have high speed internet access?

Not at all. You can have DSL without a local line, even though you still need the line coming into your house. You can also go with cable or have a T1 line installed - neither of which require a phone line.

For DSL service yes a phone line is a requirement but for cable it is not.

Not if you use a cable system, such as Roadrunner. I use a local cable company (not Roadrunner), and have no land phone. It's the same company that provides my TV service.

yeah, it really is...or tv cable..they both cost $$
