Despite all the insults, not everyone knows American history; your question is quite valid. George Washington was the first elected president from 1789-97. Considered the "father of our nation" Washington led the Continental Army to victory over the British, & played a key role in the founding of the new American nation. Today he can be found on the one dollar bill, where his portrait has been immortalized since 1923.

I can't help but wonder if you really don't know this, or if you are just seeing how many of us do. But the answer (as far as I know) is George Washington. He was the first official president chosen because of his prestigious military record in helping during the Revolution, and in setting up the Constitution.
