Q-tips can cause impaction of the earwax. A better alternative is to use a bulb syringe to flush the wax out. You can get an ear wax kit at your local pharmacy that includes a bulb syringe and some drops that gently loosen the wax.

it all depends on how you use the q tip and which kind you use. i have realized that there are q tips with loose cotton on the end where it can easily come off and ones that are really tight and dont. when i was five, i didnt know what i was doing and stuck a q tip so far in my ear that it bled really bad. its really easy 2 damage ears. you have to maneuver it so you wont push the wax back. and stick it in only a little tiny bit. keep mostly to the outside. and if you are looking for an alternative to removing wax without pouring liquids inside or sticking things inside, you can use an ear candle. its a long candle that you have someone light and hold over your ear and it sucks all the wax out. you would be amazed at how much is really in there. its a great herbal way of doing it.

simple wash daily, if buildup is present or you feel a "clog" use an ear candle, which will safely draw out all the debris and wax in the ear canal.

here's a home remedy for you to try. it is perfectly safe.
1 part hydrogen peroxide,
1 part rubbing alcohol
1 part vinegar
put a few drops in your ear and let it sit for 10-15 mins. then tilt your head and let it drain out. then do the other ear if necessary.
it fizzes and sounds really loud, just so you know.
My grandma always told us. "the ONLY thing you should shove in your ear is your elbow."
Grandma,you gotta love her!
