It is in some states. Many more have civil relationships which is pretty much what every marriage is anyhow. Marriage is a religious ceremony that is all about churches, civil marriages are just as legal for hetero or homo couples. Who cares and why should anyone desparately want strangers to bless your union? The push for legal gay marriage seems to acknowledge that someone else gets to say that its OK and the couple wants to hear that from someone else. Maybe marriages fail because couples don't commit to each other, they just commit to legal partnerships. Marriage is a church issue and born agains love to thump the Bible but so many gays also want to engage in arguing that issue with them. Why care? Its not about the union, its about the political recognition I think.

There's no such thing as gay 'marriage'. Same sex couples can have a civil partnership which gives them the same rights and responsibilities as married couples have.
But they can have it wherever they want (though I dont suppose many churches would agree to have one there) and have a reception, vows, pressies, etc and everything a wedding would have.

No. That's a misnomer.
What has recently been introduced are Civil Partnerships which give some degree of financial commitment between the parties.
Marriage is a specific state specifically between man and woman.

In some places same-sex marriage can legally contracted, with its rights and duties.
In other places it is not recognized by the government. Two same-sex people can get married privately, it's not "illegal" but it has no legal force.

They should make gay marriages legal in all 50 states then make gay divorce illegal. That will take care of gays wanting to get married.

depends where you are. In MA, it is, but the COUPLE (both people) have to have lived in the state for at least I think it's three years. In Vermont, they have "civil unions" which I think (not sure) is the same advantages of marriage, but they cannot call it "marriage"
It's stupid that it's not legal. Who is ANYONE to tell anyone else what is MORALLY right or wrong.
