A fundamental concept of socialism..put one's village before thyself..in other words-we must be at our best to serve other's to maintain our community and thus the society will give back in return. Communists would say put the community before all else without equality ..in other words-you give of self to serve the better of the community knowing you'll not receive due rewards unless you are deserving of them within the state guidelines.

Taking those views into account-OUGHT you give to your community above all else? It is a requirement of civility that you do so..to maintain order, discipline and conformity. that's why we have laws..norms and mores..that's why we have prison and mental hospitals..does your community HAVE to give back to you? Good question. Ought to-yes- but it doesn't have to at all..it could maintain a communist approach or a regime of dictatorship giving you nothing..it could try to maintain a democracy with rights and constitutions..or a monarchy that leaves you at it's mercy..all political fragmentation.

Wait--we owe our contributions to society in general, but that means that society owes things to us as well. That's why when someone hits it big it's called "giving back" to the community.
