I wear a thumb ring, and so do my friends, and all of us are straight. So maybe it means bisexuals like to wear thumb rings too.

Not sure. I think this is aimed at men more than women. I've wondered this as well and looked it up, and found nothing written about it being for gays/bi's. But I did hear someone saying it does mean your gay/bi if your a guy, a few years back. To me, anything that is even a question as to if it represents you as gay/bi or not should be avoided, unless you want people to think your gay and then get beat up even though your straight.
