Now I have to split my work with someone else when it's already dead slow. Do you think it's non of my business to ask him why?

I think it's an appropriate question. As long as when you ask it - it doesn't sound as if you're questioning his authority.

Maybe ask him- Is the company is expecting a big work-load soon, is that why we hired on so-in-so? Or something like is the company expecting to grow.... make it in a way that shows your are excited about the possiblity of growth and new opportunities.

You can also ask if there's anything you can do to train for the next position up - since you are splitting your work. Maybe start learning new skills.... not saying they're going to get rid of you, but it shows you have initiative and are acceptable to change and ready to go.

Absolutely a good question. I would ask and have asked.

It's all in how you ask. Perhaps you could meet with your boss to ask about your long-term responsibilities and his plans for the company down the road. Does he see the pace of work picking up in the near future? Are there plans for expansion that haven't yet been shared with you? Let your boss know how excited you are to be a part of the potential expansion and that you are looking forward to increased responsibility. (You want to make sure he hasn't hired your replacement, after all!)

Not a good idea to ask. I wouldn't. It is his business and he may know something you don't...like for instance, a big job coming up soon. Or he could have other reasons but they are not for you to know. As long as you are on payroll.

As long as you are receiving your full pay I would let it go for now and wait until the time is right and then ask the question.
