Your question is asked from a prejudicial standpoint and therefore does not ask a real question but rather one that is looking for validation from within in this error.
The facts are:
Children are most often abused when living with a single mother. For all abused and neglected children, nationwide, the perpetrators were mothers 58%, fathers 42%.
While it is true that more women report domestic violence, it is in error to assume that women are attacked more often based on the following that was found on the Department of Justice, Center for Disease Control and Prevention:
Every year, 1,510,455 women and 834,732 men are victims of physical violence by an intimate. This is according to a Nov. 1998 Department of Justice/Centers for Disease Prevention and Control report on the National Violence Against Women Survey.
Contrary to public perception, men are, in general, actually more likely than women to fall victim to violent crime but less likely than women to report the violence against them. Social stigma and privacy concerns are widely viewed as part of the problem. Many men also report that available services do not meet their needs, or that there simply are no programs or services available to them (as is the case with many domestic violence situations).

It's a combination of things. First, it is because the man of the house has problems. Sometimes the women and children contribute to those problems, sometimes it's something to do with the man's job, sometimes it's family issues with his own parents or siblings, sometimes it's due to money problems, sometimes it's problems with his friends, sometimes he hates himself, or a myriad of other possible things.
But in either case, the REAL problem is that the man of the house hasn't learned how to express his feelings in any way other than violence. Many times, the abuser at one time in his life was the abused, usually as a child, and that becomes all that they know as to how to vent their anger. They don't know how to deal with their problems diplomatically.
Another reason is because the women and children are the ones that the man sees everyday when he's not at work, so they automatically, without thinking about it, become the people that he takes his agression out on.
And then, as already stated, the last reason is because, generally, women and children are physically not as strong as men, and a violent man doesn't want to go after someone he thinks he might lose to in a fight, so he goes after the women and children.

Men in all surroundings want to feel dominant and powerful to his kids and his wife because he does a majority of the work outside the home from authorities like police and other citizens and puts up with stress and depression from other people on his way to work and at work. I guess, when he comes home from work when his kids and his wife tries to drag him down even more, he feels like he can't take anymore. This is just what I think, though; I'm not creating an excuse for anybody who does this to their wives and kids by any means. However, my husband tells me about his day everytime he walks in the door and as a black man in Texas, I'm telling you it's rough on him.

most likely reason that i can think of is that they both fear the father figure more than anyone els in the family because he is the boss around the house and what ever he sais goes. the reason they get into violence is because they dont do what the dad asks or sais so the dad takes action
