I played basketball the other night for about 4 hours. Now my lower back is very sore! Why? I didn't lift at all! I did play very hard though.

Its more like the tailbone area. Not the back muscles. My muscles don't ever seem to hurt.

any kind of pressure on your back is going to make it sore.. especially when you are bending and jumping around for hours on end.. that and if you have any sort of stomach that isn't rock hard.. that will had pressure to it.. kind of like a woman with large breast will experience back pains from too much pressure on the back due to too much weight on the front..

Doubt your sore back is from running. I always ran with my legs. It's from the action of playing basketball. But you can easily solve this problem as I once did. Simply strengthen the muscles in your back and lower back. Find some good exercises and do them every day.

I used toe touches and stuff like that, but it works.

It shows that u like the game very much. But u forget the golden rule>>>Excess of anything is bad. So go and take rest for a day or two and then visit court again. But this time for 1-2 hours only. OK?

Anyone that plays a sport for 4 hours straight is just looking for sore muscles.

Because you obviously used those muscles. You don't put that much strain on them on a regular basis, so they are recovering.
