A good salary would be £30k per annum outside South East England, £40k in the South East. However, it is possible to live very happily on far less, and most of us do.

I've answered this topic so many times, that I just copy it now. In 2002-03 the Crown Estates paid the Treasury £170.8 million, in return for an allowance of £7.9 million.) In 2005 the Civil List amounted to £11.2m. Only The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh receive funding from the Civil List. The Queen reimburses the annual parliamentary allowances received by other members of the Royal Family. The civil list includes traveling expenses. The Royal Family also pay very hefty taxes to the Treasury.

£30,000 upwards otherwise there is no way you can afford to buy a property here or really rent anywhere deccent. You can liveon less in the North of England but then again the wages there are considerably lower.
It is a fallacy to believe that people in the UK all have great lives with no money worries. I have just retruned from a trip to Africa and became increasingly incensed by people telling me how rich I must be as I am from the UK. I told them how expensive it is here but they just thought I was lying!!

kind of depends where you live and the house prices and cost of living, and what you want to achieve. and of course what your qualifications are. to some people £16,000 a year is a dream come true- they can afford to rent a decent place and have a social life... to the next man, especially someone with alot of skills, education and training, this is a pittance and will never buy them the 5-bed house in a nice neighbourhood that they aspire to. Think about what you actually want out of life, what you deserve based on your skills and education - and the money you deserve and need to afford the quality of life you want is a good salary for you

One can scrape along on £40K in the South East of UK but you need to invest some of it for your pension and invest to make more in the future. A heck of a lot of people earn and are paid less

I think Charles Dickens defintion of happines applies here.
Earn 19/6 spend 19/7 result misery
Earn 19/6 spend 19/- result happiness.
I apologise if I misquoted.

About 50/60k can mean you're very comfortable...
Apparantly you should aim to earn as much as your age.
So if your 25, like me you should be on 25k,
I'm no-where near that!!
