I have blue-black hair, and my fiance has dark blonde hair. What are the chances I will have a blonde child?

Note: Both of my parents have black hair. His mother has blonde hair, and his father has dark brown hair.

From my genetics class I learned that 'dark coloured' genes are dominant over 'light coloured' genes.

Looking at you... dark hair x dark hair = obviously dark hair

Looking at your fiance hair, blnd hair x dark brown hair = dark brown hair (as dark brown is more dominant)

So, I think that if:

- your child would have a gene for dark hair (coming from you) and a gene for blond hair (coming from your fiance), the gene for dark hair is dominant... so the child would be dark haired.

- your child would have a gene for dark hair (coming from you) and a gene for dark brown hair (coming from your fiance), the gene for dark hair will also be dominant... so the child would be dark haired.

Note that that above is theoeratically. It doesn't mean that this happens. You should have supplied the phenotype of your's and his grandparents aswell as that would be of more help. Also, the above is jus what I think... I don't really know if it's good. You should better check with a geneticist.

i think hair colour depends on more than just one dominant gene.

All the same, I shouldn't expect too many blonds, with just 1 blonde grandparent

i think hair might be something called co-domanince, like if you breed a red rose and a white rose, you might get a pink rose, so you might see a mix of colors here.
