I have a 3 stone, diamond engagement ring. Large stone in the middle with slightly smaller diamonds on each side. They are 4 prong so the sides of the diamonds touch each other. I smashed my hand against the shower door, I was trying to save the soap from falling.
Well now I have a "hairline crack" extending from the side of the large diamond into the middle. It is still one piece but it looks like a hairline crack.
What can I do? Will it stay together, do I have to replace it?

Well, Kay.com sez that their guarantee is the standard one, which is that they'll replace any diamond _provided_ that you've come in every six months for them to inspect its setting. Therefore, they may or may not replace it under the warranty.
Diamonds are about as hard as things get, but they can be broken--that's how they make lots of little diamonds out of the big ones they find. The process is called 'cleaving,' and it's an ancient art; they use a steel blade.
Kay may or may not cooperate. Their 'inspection' requirement is there because they want the opportunity to tighten the prongs of the setting before the diamond actually falls out and is lost. But in your case, you've got a real diamond in there that's broken, and it may be that they'll allow a replacement, or perhaps a replacement at a substantial discount.
If they offer this to you, don't grab it immediately. Instead, take the ring to the nearest big-city manufacturing jeweler--not a mall operation, but something up in the loft of a downtown building--and see what he can do for you for the same price.
Remember that diamonds don't all look alike, and that any replacement may or may not look as good as the original. We had a similar incident here, only it was a stone missing from a triple-stone ring. Our jeweler (not Kay) replaced it under the warranty, and the replacement stone looked terrible. The store manager looked upon it with horror and ordered another, which is fine.
If all else fails, and depending on your level of sentiment, you could replace the stone with one of the many simulated diamonds now lurking in the marketplace, moissanite and CZ being the two most popular, and by the time you get it all done the factory-made genuine diamonds may well be on the market.

You can't crack a diamond, hun! FYI- it's not a real diamond... sorry to tell you... :-( take it to a jeweler to get a stone to put back in it.
If you were told by the jeweler that it was a diamond, sue or get compensated in some great way. If you were told by your boyfriend it was a diamond, ask why he lied. Then go from there.

As you probably know, a diamond is the worlds hardest substance, Diamonds are used on drilling bits to cut through stone. I won't say it's impossible to crack a diamond by hitting your hand on a shower door, but let's just say....if I were you I'd check to see if it was indeed a diamond. I'd be at least a little suspicious.

You will probably have to have it replaced. There is no fix for a cracked diamond. Take it to your jeweler before you lose the stone entirely. Jen is wrong. Diamonds are hard not tough and frequently crack and break. This is not uncommon.

I had the same exact problem my ring has a large princess cut stone in the middle and two smaller baguettes on the side, I took it back to the jeweler and it's getting fixed as we type,lol, just take it to the jeweler chances are your fiance got a warranty on it he would be stupid not to

the only surface that will scratch or crack a diamond is another diamond...you may want to get your diamonds tested to make sure they are real!!!! this should not have happened!!!!
in addition, the wikepedia says "they make excellent abrasives because they can be scratched only by other diamonds"
so, no jen is not wrong, but i can now see what you say about the other diamond hitting it...it won't be worth as much now and should get it fixed if you want to have a "whole stone"

maybe you should go to the store you got it from and ask them why a diamond would get a crack in it by hitting a door.... I thought that diamonds were like really really strong....

see if u have any insurance or warranty on it- dont tell the jeweler what happened.. just say u dont know how it happened
