This is an interesting question which I've never heard put this way in my 45 years of experience as a meteorologist. But if I were forced to pick four items crucial to earth's weather I suppose I would select the Sun's radiation together with the earth's water, axis, and rotation. Afterall it is these four factors which seem to have the greatest affect on forming and maintaining the earth's weather. But I don't know whether there is any one really best answer for this question.
