I'm 19 and my last period ended Jan. 29th and now, the 6th, I woke up to use the bathroom and a bunch of little clots came out. I've had a little cramping today as well. My period has been normal for all of this last year pretty much.

What can cause clots to come out after my period has been over for a week??

Although it is common to experience irregular menstrual periods during perimenopause, women should not assume that all changes are due to menopausal symptoms. A health care provider should be contacted if any of the following occur:

Extremely heavy periods, with or without "gushing"
Clots
Seven days or more per period or more than two days longer than a woman's usual period
Intervals between periods become shorter than 21 days from the end of one period to the beginning of the next one
Spotting between periods
Bleeding after sexual intercourse
What can cause abnormal bleeding?

There are a number of potential reasons for abnormal bleeding in perimenopausal women. Some of these include:

Anovulatory cycles (cycles in which you don't ovulate) with high estrogen and low progesterone
Hormonal contraceptives (birth control)
Pregnancy
Fibroid tumors
Noncancerous growths
Cancer (more common postmenopausally)
Vaginal or cervical polyps
Endometriosis
Blood-clotting problems

If you see a gynecologist yearly. Call the clinic and request to speak to the nurse. You will probably get voice mail, but leave the nurse a message stating everything you said here.
The nurse will call you back.

Also if you are taking the pill that causes you to only have a period every 3 months. Then this can happen. It happen to me last year. Stuff builds up! I don't take that pill any more. I would rather be normal and have a period every month that not.

Sometimes your body just does things like that. If you are taking birth control it can cause clots....especially if you have just started using it or if you have changed the type you use....also if you are sexually active you can have clots...anyways I wouldn't worry that much but if it becomes a continuous thing I would see a doc and get a feminine exam.

are you active with your boyfriend? If so, you better get a pregnancy test, and do it. you can have a period and be pregnant, i was with two of my children and only have two kids. no, it's not normal and find out why this is happening and break down and go to the doctor already.

Suggest you call your OB/GYN. It might not be related to your period. This is one of the possible symptoms of a urinary tract infection. If you let it go too long, you will be sorry.
