It is possible to produce breast milk when not pregnant for several different reasons.

The hormone responsible for milk production is called prolactin. It is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain.

Medication such as metoclopramide or thioridazine can cause a rise in prolactin, but you don't appear to be on any medicines from the information that you have sent me.

Pregnancy is the other main cause, but milk production is not usually until later in pregnancy and you say that you have had regular periods - therefore this explanation is unlikely. It is not impossible though.

Occasionally women have slight but regular bleeds in the early stages of pregnancy, so I would advise a pregnancy test, just to be sure.

A rare cause of high prolactin levels is a benign growth in the pituitary gland that over-stimulates the prolactin releasing tissue. It is for this reason that I would ask you to see your GP.

Blood tests can be used to measure the level of hormones in your body and an eye test can show whether or not there is any significant enlargement of the pituitary gland.

If the gland is enlarged, it affects how much you can see at any one time ('visual fields') and this can be picked up by an optometrist.

Treatment usually requires referral to a specialist, who can also exclude any problems in the breast itself.

You might have an infection. During pregnancy, the woman's body doesnt create any milk until about 3 days after the baby is born, so if you are pregnant, therre still shouldnt be any milk coming out. Sometimes, a woman will create a pre-milk substance called Colostrum, but this isnt usually noticable until the last few weeks of pregnancy. You might either have a clogged duct in your breast, or a yeast infection in the breast. However, taking a pregnancy test will help as well. Urine pregnancy tests can tell if youre pregnant 12-15 days fter conception. Blood pregnancy tests can tell if your pregnant 6-8 days after conception.

If you were pregnant and had a baby before, yes. I had drops of breast milk coming out when squeezing for three years after I gave birth to my daugther. I thought it would dry out by itself but it didn't. So I went to a gynecologist. They made a hormone test - 6 of them - and they were all normal. After that I consulted an endocrinologist and I made 2 prolactin tests for 2 days in a row and hormone was still in the limits. She still sent me for an MRI of the gland that produces the hormone to make sure there are no adenomas in it (that's some kind of benigh tumor) and all was clear. So I still don't know why the milk did not stop by itself.

If you haven't had birth before, you should defeinitely see a specialst.

Only if you have been pregnant before and nursed a baby. Then you can still have milk. Sometimes it just never completely dries up,and will still have some tiny amounts if squeezed hard enough. SOme people who adopt babys and nurse them, have to take something to get their breasts to produce milk.It doesnt just happen. It could signal a problem. Aska doctor.

Breast milk is produced by a hormone your body releases, during the onset of labor, sometimes a little bit earlier. If you have any type of fluid coming from your breasts, call a Dr. to be on the safe side.....

Yes, sometimes the pituitary gland goes crazy and makes prolactin and oxytocin when it shouldn't, and this can cause your breast(s) to make and let down milk. for this you need to see either an ob-gyn or an endocrinologist.

Probably, check if you had hormonal changes due to contraception, new medication.

Take a complete medical to make sure nothing else is wrong because under normal circumstances this should not happen.
