False negatives are fairly common. (Did the doc to a blood or urine test? If it was urine, the chances of a false-negative go up.)
Two days late is still pretty early... and far too soon to rule out just a late period.
I'd say wait a week (eating & drinking as if you ARE pregnant), then re-test. If money's an issue, you can get cheap tests at any of the various dollar stores (Dollar Tree, 99Cent store, 98 Cent Store, 99 Cent Only, etc.) All of them carry them, and the tests work just fine.
Remember, though, one of the many things that can cause a delayed period is stress. So try to relax.

Pregnancy tests, test for the hormone HCG.......the HCG levels increase every single day that you are pregnant, wait a week or so and then test again. The only other way to tell is by untra-sound. And it this point that isn't necessary. Good Luck to you.

Did you have a urine test or a blood test? Blood Tests don't show false negatives. You should wait until you are a week past due and take a home pregnancy test.
Talk to your doctor about your concerns.

Just wait! As awful as that waiting period is, that is all you can do, and re test in a few days.
