yes, i've been a couple of times. It's nice, they have great night life (i'm talking about the summer resorts on the Black sea), it was crowded and cheap... it was fun!!

Hi I was in Bulgaria nearly 22 years ago. Was beautiful country and I know it was a long time ago, but my main concern was there was a lack of everything. I realise it was still in the Soviet Block back then, however it has JUSt joined the EU this year and although it will receive a great deal of funding to improve road infrastructure, schools, etc it will take a long time to achieve. I am in no way knocking Bulgaria, but if you are thinking about purchasing a holiday home are you doing so for investment. If you are and are planning on renting it out, think very carefully. Don't be seduced by all the television programmes and websites which are claiming it is the next best thing for property investment.
At present I don't believe the tourist figures have increased at all since the whole hype about purchasing to let in Bulgaria started. If you are going to let it out, who to? Most of the people who are going over to Bulgaria are also trying to purchase to let out. It could be a saturation situation.
A friend of mine did purchase two flats - one on Sunny Beach and one in the mountains. Despite all the assurances by the contractors that work would be completed this March, the foundations still haven't been dug.
In addition flights to Bulgaria are not cheap. I believe there is still only one international airport and boy it is a bumpy ride through the mountains from Sofia to anywhere.
Mind you that's just my advice and it's a long time ago I was there. If you are looking for a nice place to have a holiday home have you ever considered Central Portugal? There are beaches and ski resorts too and the prices are reasonable. Email me for more details

You must definitely go there first to look, depends on where you want to be as well. The building going on there is going at such a fast rate I am beginning to doubt if they are up to standard or if they will be able to sell all that is being built, if not the prices will come down, so if you buy, make sure you check everything through, thoroughly.
It is just a big property market at the moment and everyone is trying to make money (easy money) at another persons expense so be careful, there are plenty of English speaking estate agencies but we have found they don't know everything. We live in northern Greece and travel to Bulgaria sometimes so we see and hear a lot, it is a lovely country and there are plenty of opportunities but once again beware.
Bulgaria is still a poor country and are not completely in the EU they are still on trial, they have much to do before they are up to EU standards so thank god the Euro is not there yet because the Bulgarians would not be able to live.

hi we've been the people are great but my wife broke her foot while there and the hospitals are'nt very good a bit like the 1940's here. I also watched a program on sky the other day about buying in Bulgaria and it gets to -5 on the coast in winter so if its sun all year you want its not the right place but as i said the people are great and its very cheap hope that helps

i went to bulgaria in august last year and probably wouldnt go back. the people were rude and unfriendly and although the food and goods were cheap, that was only because they had not changed over to the euro and it is beginning to become a more popular holiday destination which means the prices of everything will vastly increase. there are much nicer places to buy holiday homes thats my advice

If you are clever you could buy a holiday home situated on or near mountains, in the summer it can be used like a normal summer get away and also in the winter it can be rented out to skiers or snowboarders, then which will then probably pay for its self
