I'd take all those laws, crumble them up in a ball, and throw them out the window. The People can decide for themselves how they want to live.

This is a hard question. The war on drugs was lost the second it started. It just doesn't work. I don't want to go as far as legaliing albeit some drugs should be. Maybe pot and ectasy. definetly not crack or coke.

The problem now is that the anti drug campaing is full of crap. The other day they showed two kids doing pot then one decided to play with a gun and shot himself. Forgive me if I'm wrong but people on pot usually don't like to move a whole lot. What the government need is a real campaing. Not scare tactics wit false statemenets. I'll give you an example.

When I was a kid this news reporter went into a crack house and interviewd the addicts. One of them was this woman who wanted to quit but couldn't. As she was crying andtalking to the reporter there was this needle hanging from her arm. That had a great efect on me. You could not argue with the truth. Especially when Iwent outside and saw all the addicts begging for money at every stop light. Most of them had scabs probably from scratching so much. Needeless to say I havenever tried any drugs.
When I went to highschol they showd me a film of this actor pretending to do drugs. Hey, its not the same. Pretend is not reality. I told that to the teacher. I said why don't they just show a real addict.

Like I said, yu cannot argue the truth. You can either accept it or denied it but the answer is still the same. The government needs to show the truth. Some drugs are very bad and some are not so bad. Thats doesn't mean they are not bad it just means that they won't cause you to jump of a building. One example is ecstasy. They always say that ecstasy is dangerous but in reality only 1 person a year if that dies from it. Now compare that to alcohol and cigarretes or anything else like driving, swiming or what not. You see, it just doesn't hold that much water. Now, if you where to talk about the real effects and how they may affect your life then people would listen more.

If one looks at successful drug policy from other countries, we see that the most effective policies are those that at least decriminalize drugs. In countries ( like America) where drugs are a crime, then even those basically decent people who use drugs responsibly and for recreation, must deal with the criminal element to obtain their drug of choice. In my own opinion, we here in the USA should make all drugs legal, but restrict their sale much as we do with alcohol or tobacco. The tax on the sale of marijuana alone could erase the federal deficit almost overnight. And as far as everyone turning into hopeless addicts, let's just try to be real here. Laws have never stopped anyone from doing what they want to do. Those with a penchant for self destruction would do so a bit more quickly, while those who can maintain would no longer be or have to have dealings with criminals. Also we would be pulling the financial rug out from under the criminal element. Oh, But wait! !! Did you all know that one of the biggest factions against legalization are the trial lawyers who make a fortune on drug cases.

Regulate them. Drugs will never go away. They will be in our society as long as we exist. I would make laws less strict on softer drugs for now & about the same for hard drugs. Education is where the money needs to be spent on this subject. The youth are the future & if you can educate them properly on drugs then you will see a big decline for them. We need to know every fact on drugs. Research the junkie's, the party people, & the once a month user ect. I know people that have done cocaine everyday for 20 years & I know people that have tried it a couple times and fell over dead of a overdose. What does it do to your brain & body over time. Eventually after years of education I would legalize them.

Vernon Coaker, is that you? Short of new ideas are we?!

Well, WHEN I rule the country, cannabis will be legalised (but heavily controlled) and the particularly harmful ones such as heroine and cocaine would be cracked-down on. Anyone caught selling/distributing/smuggling hard drugs would feel my wrath. People say the main problem with cannabis is that it leads to harder drugs, but if there were no harder drugs the problem would be solved. Bingo!

I have seen first hand what hard drugs do to people and I believe there is no excuse for getting involved with them. I managed to "say no" to them, I don't see why other people can't have a little self-control. Therefore, users of illegal drugs would face 25 lashings in the town stocks.

Also, users would not be able to sue the Government for making them go cold-turkey. That's just ridiculess! (And while we're at it, prisoners would not be able to sue the prison service when guards stop a suicide attempt!)

(I make no apologies for the narrow-minded response)

Good question by the way!

We could shut down the illegal drug trade in two years by making it legal for cops to search people without probable cause. I tho, would legalize, license, and regulate drugs. Reason: Government's job is not be some "mother" to us trying to keep sharp knives out of our reach - its job is regulate those interactions between citizens that require a "traffic signal" of some kind, like, literally traffic signals, making sure vendors sell quality drugs and food, air traffic control, etc. It is NOT government's job to tell us not to put too much salt on our fries.

Alcohol is the worst killer going and it is legal.Because, most all government officials are juicers and love the lobby money they get to pocket.Reagan and the Iran-Contras incident put plane loads of coke into this country. From $2000 an once to $800. per once over night, does tell you the Tonnage that was brought here.If heroin is legal are you going to run right out and go shoot up some, most likely not.The only ones are the ones doing it now.Put a death penalty on it for dealing with kids or minors. These hypocrites should get the hell out of our personal lives.

The subject of legalizing or controlling drugs is nothing new. I think if you controlled them and made them available to the people who wanted then on prescription then drug dealers would soon go out of business and the people who took drugs wouldn't need to go out mugging old people and breaking into houses. At the end of the day you would cut crime in half or more in my opinion. It is the lesser of two evils, don't you think??

I'd legalize marijuana and criminalize beer. This way, all the hypocrites I've met that lecture me about drugs while drinking a six-pack can get a taste of their own medicine.

Legalize. Simply because I believe that your life is yours, and I think the only role of government is to protect your right to your life, and what you do with it. Unless of course you seek to harm another citizen. But that goes with protecting your life, each life is equally protected.
This single act would improve all our lives ultimately. When answering any question like this, you must ask yourself; what is the single highest value you are supporting.
