You have to balance what you NEED with what you WANT. It is a truism that in anything electronic, smaller costs more. That being said, make a list of what is important to YOU, in descending order-it might go something like this:
1. Processor speed
2. Size and aesthetics (how does it look)
3. Memory
4. Features (CD-Rom drive; DVD-Rom drive, CD-RW drive, DVD-RW drive, etc.)
5. Screen size and aspect (4x3 standard aspect vs. 16x9 widescreen)
6. Video processing-Does it use an onboard graphics processor which uses shared memory, or a separate video processing "card" with its own dedicated memory?
7. Hard drive capacity

Also, you have to ask yourself what you are using it for? If you are just using it to write documents and surf the 'Net, you really don't need much in the way of processing power or a separate video card. If you are using it to edit photos, you need the processing power, more RAM and having a RW drive isn't a bad option. If you are planning on using it to play games, the graphics card and additional RAM should be high on your list. Take a look at newegg.com-under laptops they have "drill-down" categories; you can start with what is most important to you and keep refining your search until you find what you really want. I use Newegg as an example because I have been very satisfied with their service and because they have an easy to understand and very sophisticated search system.

I would say go for the better parts as it will eliminate headaches down the road. Just my personal opinion ;).

Also you could check out a Hewlett Packard computer, they might possibly have the chic design you want, and the robust computing power all in one!

What do you do with processor? If you play mp3, some online video, search Internet and using Microsoft Word, then choose the avaio. And more the processor 2.5GHz and processor 2.7Ghz (for example) don't have much difference.

If the choice is between Dell and Sony - and you can work with the Sony - go with that one.

Dell waranty isn`t the best - or it is very expensive

Depends on what you need it for. If you are getting the laptop just to impress others then go for the looks, but if you actually need to use it to do soemthing definitely go for the better hardware.
