A few years ago a young woman in a high school in Oklahoma wrote this poem as a new school prayer. ``Now I sit me down in school where praying is against the rule, for this great Nation under God finds mention of him very odd.
``The Scripture now the class recites, it violates the Bill of Rights. And any time my head I bow, becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, that is no offense, it is a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise, only prayers spoken out loud are a serious vice.
``For praying in a public hall might offend someone with no faith at all, in silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the State. We are allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, and pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks, they have outlawed guns but first the Bible.
``To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant senior queen, and the unwed daddy our senior king. It is inappropriate to teach right from wrong, we are taught that such judgments do not belong.
``We can get our condoms and birth control, study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles, but the Ten Commandments are not allowed. No word of God must reach this crowd. It is scary here I must confess, when chaos reins the school is a mess.
``So Lord this silent plea I make, should I be shot my soul please take.''

The federal government and many liberals do not realize that in prohibiting such things, not only do they violate their vaunted first ammendment (that is, freedom of speech), but they also violate the free practice of religion. If the congress decides to step in and proclaim these things illegal, we have an INSTANT violation of the establishment clause that Liberals supposedly work so hard to defend.

Thanks for posting this, my friend.

School prayer is a volatile issue. It's not illegal to pray in school, but it is illegal to be disruptive to others, or for teachers or faculty to promote one religion over another. Would you like it if your teacher lead the class in a Wiccan prayer? If you want Christian only education, send your child to a Christian school, there are plenty of them.

You can study the 10 Commandments as much as students can study Witchcraft. The school just cannot promote either activity, As for the birth control, use your head, teens need to know about birth control. Abstinence only programs don't work. They just create more pressure for a teen that cant live up to it. They also don't foster a healthy sex life or promote safe sex.

Students are absolutely allowed to pray in school. However, the teacher/principal is not allowed to lead the school in a prayer. That is how it works. It's not simply "the liberals are taking God out of schools!".
If you want your kid to be involved with school mandated prayer, then send them to private school. Until then know that public schools are for all of the public, not just the religous ones.

Contrary to what some people might like to think, there are no laws forbidding prayer in public schools. Rather, there are laws that forbid ORGANIZED prayer in public schools. A student is certainly free to pray silently in his/her seat in class as long as the class isn't being disturbed. Also, students are free to form on-campus religious organizations in public schools. The girl's poem holds zero water.

she should pay attention when she is in school, instead of wasting the teachers time and writing 'poetry'. But yes, prayer is great, and not illegal. See you in church!

She contradicted herself. She said they outlawed guns but at the end prayed the Lord her soul to take if she got shot....I give it a C+.

Religion is a great thing, but school is for learning, church is for praying.
