i ran out of black ink at the weekend and decided to try the scs utility to reset the counters etc on my RX620 printer.

It didn't help as the cartridge still said it had run out so i went to buy some compatible cartridges today.

After replacing the black ink i go a message saying that NON of my inks were recognised and that i need to replace them ALL with Genuine Epson Inks!

I contacted Epson who didn't want to know once they discovered i was using compatables. From what i gleaned from the conversation, when i rest the counters i also must have reset the pre-charge and for some reason the cartridges are not automaticaly carrying out an initial charge when they are replaced.

The scs utility has a initial charge comand but it says it isn't supported in the current printer state.

Can anyone tell me what to do or have i just wrecked a £200 printer?

Will genuine ink cartridges complete the initial charge or would i be wasting my money buying them.

Hi, I have had this problem before with epson printers with compatible cartridges. Never had a problem with originals. Try buying a genuine epson black cartridge and you will find it will recognise the colour ones. Epson don't like the the thought of people re-filling their cartridges so they invented one with a chip in it. Sometimes the chip in the cartridge will tell the printer the cartridge is empty even when it isn't. They may as well have saved money by leaving the cartridges as they were because as with anything, it can be copied. Occasionally you will get a compatible that doesn't work. Did you buy yours from asda. Re-insert the original epson cartridge and see if it recognises it and the other cartridges. If it does then you know the problem is with the compatible you bought. When you put a compatible in, there is somewhere in the epson status monitor where you can authorize compatibles to be used. If for any reason it doesn't work with genuine cartridges uninstall all the epson software and re-install again. Hope this helps

I bought a printer 5 days ago, tried to set it up yesterday, wouldn't recognize ink cartridges that came with. went to store to exchange for a new/same one (Epson XP-820). Came home and same deal! I've had an Epson 500C for years and so believed in the brand.... This is ridiculous. I'm going back again today and get a different brand. keep hearing that HP though their ink program wastes ink, the software is more reliable...
