I have Windows XP home and when I tell my computer to shutdown or go into standby it listens and shuts down but then immediately turns on again. I have looked at the windows power settings and everything seems to be fine. What might be the problem?

I have already run a virus scan and it came up clean. I have also unplugged the computer and left it overnight. Also, the power button is not stuck.

True, the power button on the front panel could be stuck. AVG anti virus, Ad-Aware, Spy-bot Search & Destroy, and Windows Defender are all free utilities that can help you maintain your computer. Download, update and run them regularly.
