My roommate says that if I continue wearing pants around the apartment, he will have me evicted. I got myself a lawyer, but my concern is that my lawyer often wears pants. What do I do?

If you're on the lease, he cannot have you evicted without just cause, and refusing to abide by his dress code is not a just cause unless you signed some sort of agreement with him or there's a clause in the lease concerning dress (which would be a first that I've ever heard of). I would have a discussion with the landlord, explain the situation, and find a new apartment. Maybe the landlord will allow you to break your lease without losing your security deposit or having to pay an early-termination penalty. If not, maybe your lawyer can help you win back any lost money from the roommate. If this nutcase does anything to try to enforce his "dress code," have him arrested.

rather than have your stuff confiscated and you get into trouble along with them why not report the situation (but be ready to move when you do) and ask if you could have a hotel room near the campus so that you could live alone so you could study (you need peace and quiet). You do or don't have to report the weed, it's your choice. I've lived in a a hotel room before while schooling so I know that can be done. Otherwise look for a studio apartment in the area and hopefully you own a vehicle but if not then get yourself a beater. Never confront anyone who is doing drugs. Just tell the RA that you need peace and quiet and they are somewhat too rowdy for you. You can mention your major and that you want to do well in it. And that you need to move. Your move in fact can be done pronto and silently if you're in a good school.

First of all I'm assuming that your yanking our chain, but what the heck. Is your name on the lease? If so your roomate can't get you evicted. Secondly, do you really want to continue living in a house with this person? I would be looking for somewhere else to live where I would be comfortable and not have to worry what insane rule they will want to institute next.

Well, it depends. If the roomy is cute, then you can get over him being a bit crazy if he is hot and running around pantsless.

If he has a big beer belly or is yucky looking then definitely not. Tell him you have instituted a new "bag on head" policy.

if you moved in and it was understood that those were the rules.. that's one thing.. but to initiate it and threatening to evict you... that's wrong, and I'm sure illegal to some extent... it could even be sexual harassment... he's in the 'authority' position and you're not (from the sounds of it)... it sounds like it's time to move, as if you fight this, the living situation will be ugly and very uncomfortable.

give notice.

Sounds like a fun policy.

But seriously no he can't do that unless he's paying 50.1% (or more) of the rent.

Don't be absurd. There is no such law. Find a new roommate; this one's nuts.
